About the HMC

The Hills Musical Company is a small company that has come a long way since it’s inception in 1972. Based in Stirling, and working in the beautiful and historic Stirling Community Theatre, initially the committee consisted of mostly local people running the show, but nowadays, our committee is made up of people not just from the hills, but from all over Adelaide.

We take pride in what we do and in recent years, we have been fortunate enough to be rewarded for our hard work with many awards for our shows, whether it be a nomination for a particular area or actually winning an award or two. We offer a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in which to work, and also have the luxury of being able to rehearse in the theatre for some of the time, which is an added bonus. It is this friendly relaxed atmosphere and the theatre itself, which attracts people from far and wide to join our company.

Committee meetings are usually once a month with an extra meeting prior to show time to make sure things are on schedule. Our auditions are open, and again we try to make them as relaxed and friendly as we can, as we know how terrifying auditions can be.

Information nights are normally on a Monday night with the auditions taking place on the following Sunday at the theatre unless it is otherwise booked. The Annual General Meeting is held in yearly according to our constitution, where we try to encourage new members to come onto the committee as we need all the help we can get. The Hills Musical company is well known for giving people their First break in theatre especially in directing and musical directing. Some of Adelaide’s best directors did their first show at “The Hills”.

That old saying “Many hands make light work” could never be more true, as there are a lot of areas in a production that need the attention of some one to take care of, from ‘Front of House’, ‘Publicity’, Tickets’, to ‘Props’ and ‘Costumes’. If after having read this, you feel like you would like to do something with your spare time, and have something to offer in the way of help, please feel free to contact one of the committee, as we really do need all the help we can get. Do you enjoy making or building things? If you do, then we need you. Come and learn how to make props or build sets. It is very rewarding to go from a drawing to seeing the finished product.
